VALENTIA ISLAND COMMUNITY HOSPITAL

Valentia Island Hospital is a charitable facility providing long stay residential care, respite care and day care services for the elderly of the South Kerry area. The hospital currently provides long stay care for 16 elderly residents in addition to providing a day care service to the elderly of the locality. The hospital is currently carrying out an extension to bring the hospital up to HIQA standard. The new building will provide single room accommodation to the required standards for 24 residents. The current bedrooms will be reconfigured and put to other uses in the daily operation of the service. The cost of providing and fitting out this extension is almost €1.5 million and has to be sourced by the voluntary Board of Management.

Valentia Island Hospital was established in 1870 and has provided 147 years of unbroken service to the Iveragh peninsula in South Kerry to date.
The hospital is managed by a voluntary Board of Directors working hard to fund and create the necessary changes to the hospital.

The cheque was awarded to Colette O’Connor on behalf of the hospital. Jack and Tracy Fitzpatrick, Inver Market House, Cahirchiveen nominated the hospital in partnership with Inver as part of the companies Leading Light initiative. Inver Leading Lights focuses on giving back to the local communities around Inver Service Stations.
